Mersing-Pekan Nenas-Tg Piai-Kukup and back

Over 18th-21st Oct 2017, took the weekday opportunity to go to Mersing, Johor riding to the Southern most tip of Peninsular Malaysia-Tanjung Piai. From the southern most tip, we got to see Singapore and the mangroves at Tanjung Piai.

Tanjung Piai is a RAMSAR conservation site. It has rhizophora, bruguiera, sonneratia and avicennia. With that, I could also hear woodpecker’s call, kingfisher’s call and other fauna’s sound. There is a boardwalk leading to to the southernmost tip and the globe memorial for guests to take pictures.

We also stayed at Pekan Nenas, translated into Pineapple Village. A village in Johor which produce and exported pineapples since 1980s. There is even a museum about pineapple industry, how pineapple farming was cultivated.

There were alot of local eats along the village. However, it was mostly flat and rather boring as some stretch were endless palm oil. Very monochrome culture. I enjoyed tasting new cakes, cookies of the new village settlement. And learning the different names of food in Johor local village. Stopped by a market not too far away from Mersing. It was filled with fresh fish, freshest catch of the day.
